COLLEGE PARK -- A local realtor is charged with first-degree murder after police found her boyfriend dead in a College Park home early Wednesday morning.
As Caryn Kelley, 46, was led away from Orlando police headquarters, she claims the victim shot himself.
A 911 call came from a home in the 900 block of West Smith Street at 4:49 a.m.
When police arrived, a sergeant said Kelley was upset, irritated and hostile.
“Apparently they were drinking and an argument took place,” said Orlando police Sgt. Vincent Ogburn.
When officers searched the house, they found 46-year-old Phillip Peatross dead from a gunshot wound.
“Boyfriend and girlfriend. We don't know if it’s domestic or dating violence. Investigators are still looking into that,” Ogburn said.
“I didn't shoot him,” Kelley said. “He took the gun and shot himself. (Were you having a fight?) Please stop. I don't even know who you are.”
Kelley denied any wrongdoing as she was led away, but detectives saw things differently.
“They found enough evidence at the scene and based on her statements, it was enough to charge her with homicide,” Ogburn said.
Kelley was questioned for most of the day by detectives. Police wouldn't say whether she was cooperative or not.
She did reach out to someone while being loaded into the back of the squad car.
“I did not shoot him,” Kelley said. “Cheryl, please help me. Cheryl, an attorney.”
News 13 was unable to find any criminal history for either Kelley or Peatross in Orange County.
Police said the only time they'd ever been to that home was for a noise complaint.
Kelley remains locked up in the Orange County Jail without bond. She will likely have a first court appearance Thursday morning.
