Driver extradited to face DUI charges 01/30/2010
LAND O' LAKES - A former Pinellas County teacher involved in a fatal crash in April has been arrested and extradited to Pasco County. Pasco County sheriff's detectives traveled this week to Troy, N.Y., where Deborah Terrero was arrested Jan. 16 on a Pasco warrant and signed a waiver of extradition to face charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI. She was booked into the Land O' Lakes Jail on Thursday. Terrero is charged in the death of Nicole Cetrangolo, 37, who was killed April 5 when the motorcycle on which she was riding was involved in a crash at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Oakley Avenue about 2 a.m., authorities say. Terrero, of New Port Richey, was driving a 1999 Ford sport utility vehicle west on Oakley Avenue and went through a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 19, according to authorities. The driver of the motorcycle, Kenneth Dillon, 48, was northbound on U.S. 19 and tried to avoid the vehicle by turning into the center lane. Terrero made a wide turn and drove into the same lane, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The motorcycle, a 2007 Triumph, hit the back of the SUV. Cetrangolo of New Port Richey died at the scene. Dillon sustained serious injuries but survived. Neither he nor Cetrangolo were wearing helmets, according to the highway patrol. Terrero and passenger Meghan Flareau, 24, of Hudson, were not injured, troopers said. According to the warrant, Terrero was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance at the time of the crash. Terrero had been a teacher for the Pinellas County school district's hospital and homebound program until 2008. She was being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $450,000. According to an obituary in her hometown paper, The World, Cetrangolo was born in Vermont and was a graduate of Norwich University, where she was a member of the women's rugby team. While living in West Virginia, she started researching trauma and dedicated her life to helping anyone suffering from trauma. When she died, she was in the process of writing a book on the subject.
